The thinking processes represented by Costa’s Levels 2 and 3 are often called critical thinking. This involves processing and applying information, rather than gathering or recalling information.

Learning how to think and question at these higher levels of intellectual functioning requires students to understand the types of information and processes necessary to respond to the questions, along with continual practice and refinement.

In the following section there are examples of content-specific questions.  Identify the intellectual function represented in each question.
