Course Description
This course is intended to preview information that will be beneficial prior to your face-to-face learning experience. This online experience offers approximately four hours of asynchronous learning. These modules are entirely self paced and accessible 24 hours a day from any device. Once you've completed the modules, you will be ready to register for your four hours of synchronous training, begin your four hours of practicum training at your assigned school sites (on the job training with AVID Coordinators) and complete four hours of ongoing training with the district AVID team.
Performance Objective(s)
Participants will:
- Use their learning in the asynchronous and synchronous online training to advance the AVID tutorial according to the current AVID Center tutorial requirements
- Become familiar with the purpose and structure of the AVID College Readiness System
- Enhance their understanding of what rigor in tutorials looks like, how to engage with students in a virtual environment and how to improve student academic achievement
- Apply Costa's Levels of Thinking to WICOR strategies and tuorials
- Learn how to monitor, coach and debrief with students in order to create rigorous, collaborative, inquiry based tutorials
