Camera Movements

When people first start to shoot video, they tend to move around a lot (zoom, pan, and tilt). All camera moves should serve a purpose. Too many moves is limiting when editing, because cutting together shots that are moving in really different and/or extreme ways can be visually jarring. When you do a camera move, its always a good idea to get some static shots in case you need them later.

Zoom

the camera stays still but the lens focuses in on a specific part of the frame.

Pan

from a stationary position the camera moves from side to side.

Tilt

from a stationary position the camera moves up and down.

Truck

the whole camera is moved from side to side.

Dolly

the whole camera is moved forward and backward.
