Students will explore the concept of artificial intelligence (AI) with Minecraft. The art and science of creating programs that mimic, or even surpass, human intelligence is an important and ever changing technology in our society. Although there are sometimes ethical questions and concerns about AI, it is an essential part of computer science. Students will explore these ideas through research, coding activities, and an independent project.
This lesson will guide students through a Minecraft world to help them get a high-level understanding of how Artificial Intelligence can be used to collect data and facts about forest fires. They also have the opportunity to create coding solutions that include sequences, events, loops, and conditionals.

NGSS Standards: 4-ESS3 Earth and Human Activity
4-ESS3-1.Obtain and combine information to describe that energy and fuels are derived from natural resources and their uses affect the environment.
4-ESS3-2.Generate and compare multiple solutions to reduce the impacts of natural Earth processes on humans.
Objective:
Students will understand the teachable functionality of artificial intelligence (AI) and its application in Minecraft. Students will engage in hands-on activities using Minecraft EDU AI for Good to learn coding basics and explore a real-world example of artificial intelligence. Students will reflect on the real-world implications of AI and its role in society to prevent wildfires.
