Potato Experiment(Scientific Inquiry)

Question? What will happen to a potato when microwaved multiple times?

Claim:  Your Hypothesis in an “If…., then…” statement.

Materials:

Potato,  Electronic balance,  Microwave,  Oven mitts (something similar)

 

Procedure:

  • Weigh your potato and record the start weight in grams in your data table.
  • Microwave the potato for one minute and weigh it again.  Record in data table (notebook).
  • Repeat Step 2 until the weight of the potato remains constant between readings (until the potato stops changing weight).
  • Use the graph paper to plot your results

*Create a data table for the data you will collect.  Use a ruler if there is one available or find a straight edge.

*Draw a graph of your results.  Use a ruler if there is one available or find a straight edge.

*Label both axes and include a title.

 

Observations:

  • Record your observations of what happened to your potato throughout the experiment
  • Draw a picture of your potato of when you first got it.
  • Draw a picture of your potato at the end of your experiment. (or take photos and upload w/ your complete assignment)
